KENTUCKY - The largest NRA convention ever begins today at 9:00 a.m. in Louisville, KY. Over 80,000 people are expected to attend the annual meeting. Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, Wayne Lapierre, Matt Bevin, Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr. and Mike Pence will address attendees.
Democratic congressman John Yarmuth is calling on Trump protesters to turn out in large numbers saying:
"Trump is pandering to the worst instincts of America.. xenophobia, anti-Muslim sentiment, anti-immigrant sentiment, misogyny. This is why I think he is singularly unqualified to be president of the United States.
I hope that, during his appearance in Louisville, there will be an enormous outpouring of opposition, both to the NRA and to his brand of politics. The NRA is totally out of touch with the attitudes of the vast majority of American people about common sense approaches to gun violence, including universal background checks and closing the gun show loophole, among others."
The annual NRA leadership forum gets underway at 12:30 p.m Friday at the Kentucky Exposition Center. The exhibit hall opens at 9:00 a.m.
