Sleeping 6-Year Old Stabbed To Death By Stranger Who Drove 175 Miles

KENTUCKY - Police say the 6-year-old was asleep in his bed when he was stabbed to death by 32-year-old Ronald Exantus. “As a father, your job is to protect your children, and I could not protect him,” Logan Tipton’s father Dean said at a vigil for the boy Monday night.

In the video below police say Exantus walked through the family's unlocked front door around 4 a.m. Monday and wandered around before finding a kitchen knife and committing the crime.

Tipton's 11-year-old sister tried to stop him until her dad could get upstairs. The boy's father held the suspect until police arrived. Exantus is being held on murder and burglary charges but police say they can't figure out the motive behind the brutal killing.

There is no connection between the suspect and victim, and he has no known ties to Versailles, police said. Exantus is a registered nurse with a family of his own in Indianapolis, according to those who know him. They’ve taken to Facebook to say they're as shocked as anyone, calling him "nice, normal and a hard worker."
