Micah Johnson is suspected of being involved in a deadly attack on Dallas, TX Police. During the attack 2 civilians and 12 police officers were shot. 5 Dallas police officers were killed. This was the deadliest event for police officers in the United States since September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Dallas Police Chief David Brown addressed the shooting suspect's motive during a press conference Friday. Chief Brown said: "The suspect said he was upset with white people and wanted to kill white people, especially white officers".
The United States Army has confirmed that Dallas, Texas police shooting suspect Micah X. Johnson was a combat veteran. According to Department of Defense officials Micah Johnson was a private first class in the Army Reserves. Johnson served a tour in Afghanistan from November 2013 to July 2014. Private Johnson was part of the 284th Engineering Company based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
According to police after several hours of intense gunfire the Dallas shooting suspect, Micah X. Johnson was killed by a police bomb robot. When negotiations failed police used the robot to detonate a bomb killing Johnson. The suspect did not shoot himself despite early reports.
Police chief Brown said:
“He wanted to kill officers, and he expressed killing white people, he expressed killing white officers. He expressed anger for Black Lives Matter. None of that makes sense, none of that is a legitimate reason to do harm to anyone, so the rest of it would just be speculating on what his motivations were. We just know what he said to our negotiators.”
Dallas shooter Micah X. Johnson lived in Dallas, Texas and and has family who live in Mesquite, Texas. During negotiations Johnson told police he acted alone and has no ties to terror groups.
