Who may have watched this coming?
Senate Republicans undercut the Home proposal for a 6 week debt ceiling extension by proposing a longer extension:
Obama sided with all the Senate Republicans, rejecting a brief expression extension. Via Keith Koffler, Obama Reverses, Opposes Short-Term Debt Ceiling Hike:
Perhaps sensing Republican weakness, President Obama reversed himself plus is pushing back against short-term debt ceiling walk, stressing inside his weekly address introduced this morning what a bad idea it will be.
It wouldn’t be smart, because several recommend, to only kick the debt ceiling could down the road for a couple months, plus flirt with a first-ever intentional standard appropriate inside the center of the christmas buying season.
After the GOP was offfered earlier this week what I described because a cave-in by Obama – a willingness to accept a brief expression debt ceiling heighten whilst negotiations Obama has earlier refused kicked inside – Republicans failed to act, dithering for days plus failing to forge a unified position between their Home plus Senate caucuses.
Instead, sloppy Republican leadership enabled contending proposals to emerge within the Home plus Senate, with a Senate program which might extend government financing for six months plus raise the debt ceiling from January 2014. Home Republicans desired to raise the debt limit till the week before Thanksgiving.
As any general knows, whenever a opposition is split, we win. Obama acted smartly to abet the divisions amidst Republicans by enticing them individually to the White Home. At his meeting with GOP senators, Republicans were reduced to asking Obama what was inside the Home program.
What a joke. Republicans could have gotten their act together plus insisted about a meeting between Home plus Senate GOP leaders as well as the president. This might have prepared sense except, naturally, Home Speaker John Boehner was not severe regarding the Home position to start with . . .
